Hi, everyone. I'm new. I am hoping to find some ES&H here with you fellow Al-Anoners. I have not attended a F@F yet as I am currently looking for one in my area. I am 23 years old married to a 35 year old alcoholic. I grew up with an alcoholic stepfather.
I am currently pregnant with our first child and have realized that I do not want my child to grow up with all of the insanity. I know that I cannot change my husband nor can I make him 'see the light' but I can do something about myself. I am hopeless. I feel as if there is no way out, but yet, I know that you all are getting better and better one day at a time. How is it done? I'll have to stick around and find out. Thank you for letting me be a part of the group. I hope to get to know you all better.
Thanks!
Alyssa

[COLOR=blue] :) Hi Alyssa,
I am fairly new to Al-Anon myself but I am not new to alcoholism. I am new to this site though.
You already know that you can't "fix" him. You have to start with yourself. To get better, you take it "one day at the time". I read my Al-Anon books in the morning and before I go to bed at night, I only get to go to one Al-Anon meeting a week but I go to open AA meetings as well every chance I get. It helps me so much. I tried all my life to change each person in my life that was or is an alcoholic or addict and that didn't work. I had to start with--guess who--ME!!! Al-Anon teaches you how to deal with life with an alcoholic. Please don't think you are hopeless--you're not. Al-anon works if you work it.
Take care and hang in there. Find a local meeting and go--faithfully--for you!!
Hope this helps,
