I am the volunteer President of the Board of Officers of thr Triangle Club in Dover, NH(stop in if you're in the area!). We are having severe finacial problems that are not improved by the philanthropic attitudes of most of the board members. Their attitude seems to be that God will care for the Club, always, even if we screw up.
We are in the red due to improper management by previous boards and the current unwillingness of a majority of officers to work for the Club. Officers refuse to even discuss raising rents of the thirty groups that hold their meetings here each week. even though we are behind in most of our bills and still owe on last winter's heating bill. The Triangle Club is not affiliated with AA, but most board members act as if we are a charitable organization designed to underwrite AA groups and cater to AA members who attend meetings here. This is all done at the expense of our dues-paying members. I'm trying to rally the membership to regain control of the Club, in which they are stockholders , but it is a slow process. I'm at my wits end and fear we may wind up losing the Club, which has been in existence since 1983, & has helped thousands of alcoholics. If you have any ideas/practical criticism for the board to review, please send it to me and I'll pass it on at our next business meeting (8-7-05). Perhaps if they hear from fellow AA's besides me they'll get their act together. Thanks in advance!andyt003@yahoo.com
I'm surprised that thirty-six alcoholics viewed this post, but only one responded. Perhaps in NH we're more opinionated, or willing to share our views.

By Clubs not being affiliated with AA it is up to each board member, have you discussed raising the cost of coffe Etc. or having afund raiser such as a dance or something along those lines, I realize it is hard to raise rents, however in the AA groups I belong tothe suggestion was made to ask each member to throw $2.00 in the hat, I realize that you are dealing with drunks who probably don't have $2.00, this is only suggestions, have you also talked to the bill collectors to work out some smaller payment plans, explain to them what you are dooing to help someone trying to get their life back on track, most of them will be glad to work with you, just as if you are working the 8th and 9th steps, I know when first started coming to meetings this was suggested to me, today I have almost all of my bills paid off, it has taken me 6 years of sobriety to do this.

These are just suggestions, I hope everything works out for you.

I'm one of those who viewed your post but didn't respond. I'm thinking that you're the same Andy I responded to via email in July.

It's always good to be a "nice guy" but if the club will fold without more funding from those who use it, well, then they should pay more, or lose the club.
