How do we go about keeping the newcomer interested?

The program is based on attraction rather than promotion, do we do enough to attract the newcomer?

The way I was taught was to be an example. That means to me to not only talk the talk but walk the walk. After a meeting I always go and welcome the newcomer to AA and the meeting. Ask about how they are and give them my phone number so they can call any time they want someone to talk to. I can remember when I was new and someone did the same for me. Made me fell welcomed. I needed that and I guess I still do.
