The Online Alano Club was founded to serve as a supplement to the recovery program and process. Especially in the areas of fellowship and fun. This is a nonprofit enterprise. If it succeeds, we will incorporate and apply for tax-exempt status. If it doesn't succeed, well, we will be nonprofit in the most literal sense of the word.
The slant throughout the web site is towards Alcoholics Anonymous members and groups. That's because the club's founders are mostly A.A. members. A.A. is what we know. There are eight A.A.s and one non-alcoholic ("normie") on the founding board of directors.
Meetings
Both open and closed meetings may be held at the club. Three venues are available: email, chat, and discussion forum. There will be no dues or fees for people wanting to attend meetings at the club. However, meetings and groups are expected to practice the Seventh Tradition and become self-supporting as soon as possible. For more information on meetings, the schedule is here. For information on starting a meeting, the information is here.
Club Membership
For those who join the club in April and May, membership will be free through 2004. Likewise, most everything on the web site will be free for all to use for a limited time. At some point, there will be "members-only" sections and services. The board hasn't made a definite plan about this. We're waiting on you. As a member, you'll have a voice in how the club is run and what it offers. You'll help decide.
Only individuals may be members. Meetings and groups may not "join" the club. See A.A.'s Third Tradition (long form), Sixth Tradition, and, to some extent, Tenth Tradition.
To join, fill out the form on the About Us page. Be sure to check the box to get subscribed to the members email list. On that list, not here, is where a collective conscience will be formed.
