Do clubs allow public to rent the building?

What are the rules for non profit putting ads or articles in the paper about the clubs?

Does A.A. members have the right to anonymity when renting the building for groups?

Are we protecting A.A. members by joining in with Clubs that want to sell food to the general public?

Thanks

Hi, Grandma!

The first thing to know is that clubs are not AA. There are no "AA clubs." Clubs may be formed by AA members, but the club itself is not part of AA. I said that three different ways because online I never know whether I'm being clear or not.

For AA's take on clubs, there is a set of "AA Guidelines ... Clubs" produced by AA World Services. If you can't find that document locally, it is available online as a PDF at the primary AA web site: http://www.aa.org

Sure, clubs can place ads or articles in the media.

I'm not certain what you mean by "anonymity when renting the building for groups." When an AA group rents meeting space, whether in a church, community center, club -- anywhere -- the landlord will usually want a contact person, or even a signed contract in some cases. Think about it. Someone named "Bill" comes in and wants to rent your buidling or room ... are you going to rent to him without additional information? Tradition Eleven is about anonyminty at the level of press, radio, film (public media). It is not about anonymity within a community or between a landlord and an AA group.

AA does not "join in" with clubs, has no affiliation with clubs.

Also note that more and more clubs are no longer specifically set up to accommodate AA groups or members. Many clubs rent space to and accept memberships from groups and members of multiple 12-Step fellowships.

Any club is an autonomous organization and is free to do as it pleases -- within the law, of course.

The important fact to keep in mind is that a club is not AA.

Does that help?
