Service!!!
So I wondered after all these years just exactly what Bill thought about
Service Work. I went to the Daily Reflections Book because it is indexed according
to subject. I am also going to check out "As Bill Sees It" to see what he says in there.
This is what I found in "Daily Reflections."
Fifteen entries on Service.
I have just become a DCM, hopefully I will have some idea about what I am
doing.
So I am researching.
GETTING INVOLVED
There is action and more action. "Faith without works is dead"..........To be helpful is our only aim.
"I understand that service is a vital part of recovery but I often wonder. "What can I do?" Simply start with what I have today? I look around to see where there is a need..........." Setting up chairs, coffee to make, treasurers position needs filled.
"The miracle of service is this: when I use what I have, I find there is more available to me than I realized before."
GIVING WITHOUT STRINGS
And he well knows that his own life has been made richer, as an extra dividend
of giving to another without any demand for a return.
The concept of giving without strings was hard to understand when I first came into the program. I was suspicious when others wanted to help me.......... But I soon learned the joy of helping another alcoholic and I understood why they were there for me in the beginning..............................
When my life is full of a loving God of my understanding and I give that love to my fellow alcoholic, I feel a special richness that is hard to explain.
Two seperate types of service. Both needed in the program.
And both equally rewarding.
The best job I ever had was coffee maker.
Everyone that stays to help is usually pretty committed to the program,
Making coffee is where I got my best basic AA knowledge.
Try it, it's fun.
In Service,
